Looking back in anger.

Johnny Cash performed a song that Glen Sherley (a prisoner) wrote for the prisoners in Folsom prison back in the sixties with the title ..."Looking Back in Anger". The idea was to find a way to provide hope to those who had pretty much given up on life. I never could find the lyrics to the song and the only place I know it may still exist is in Folsom prison and maybe here locally in Dorchester Penitentiary. Yeah....you know what I'm talkin about. Been there...done that. Anyhow, Glen's song suggests looking back in anger was one of the main reason for the loss of all hope. He was given a second chance at life as a result of Johnny Cash and company along with other songs he wrote while in Folsom. (re: Greystone Chapel) Ironically though Glen Sherley killed himself in 1978 at the age of 42.

Nearing 65 I often find myself  looking back. Not so much in anger any longer ( I used to during my prison, drinking and drug years ) but looking back pausing at the good things and thinking..."if only". I guess we all do that at some time in life. That's a good thing .It's part of the journey in growing up. Looking back now I can clearly see how precious "life" really is. It all matters. That's why I am writing this blog. I am also writing it for those whom I love. all  of you ....no exceptions. I carefully choose my starting point with Johnny Cash and Glen Sherley for a reason. Johnny because he showed his brotherly love to someone considered very low on the social ladder and Glen because he reminds me about so much pain and the forthcoming peace and joy to follow. Last; but definitely not the least, I am writing it because I know I must if I want to feel right about those precious moments in my life. This is for me...and for you ....personally.

I was born february 25 1949 in Halifax Nova Scotia. Given the name Paul William Rogers. Mother Barbara Viola "Ninnie" Rogers and father unknown.......Herbie Yeates was added to the certificate of birth, but I never legally had that name until I changed it myself in 1996 since my whole school history was under Paul G. Yeates. so was most everything else. My own children carry this name hereon.
